Who We Are and What We Do |

We are Iowans who are concerned about the welfare of companion animals. We want better laws to protect them and we expect those laws to be enforced. Our goal is to become a significant advocate for companion animals in Iowa. We will accomplish this through grassroots advocacy.
"To advance, through grassroots advocacy, a legal framework to ensure the humane and ethical treatment of companion animals in Iowa."
Many wonderful shelter and rescue organizations exist in Iowa. They work tirelessly providing the direct, hands-on care for tens of thousands of homeless companion animals in our state. There have been noble attempts by some of these organizations to promote and lobby for changes in our state animal-welfare laws, but this effort requires a focus that just isn't possible when one is caring for the day-to-day needs of animals.
That's where we come in. Our focus will be on grassroots engagement to influence legislation to improve Iowa animal-welfare laws.
We will also work to educate and support the law enforcement and judicial communities in the enforcement and administration of these new laws.
Our first goal is to ensure the humane treatment of the tens of thousands of dogs in Iowa's USDA-licensed commercial dog breeding facilities also referred to as puppy mills. Iowa has the 3rd largest number of puppy mills in the nation, with at least 400 facilities! Many house 100, 200, even more than 400 adult breeding dogs!
